A Prayer Life

A modern day prayer journal
Today I am meditating on the parable of the prodigal son. This story speaks to me of the backslidden: belonging to God but far from home. I’ve been there and it is a truly terrible place full of deceit and despair.

I pray for those believers who are far from God. I pray that you will merely turn around and see Your merciful, loving Father is already running toward you. How beautiful is that?

"And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

"But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.

In Your presence, I am transformed. Jesus, Your love is better than anything! I do not live apart from You.

How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
~Psalm 84:1-2

I won’t stop praying for my brothers and sisters around the world. Oh, Lord, pour out Your strength, courage, and peace upon Your people who live under pressure and persecution for Your name. Be so very real to them as You were to Stephen. Accomplish Your will and purpose in all matters and break EVERY chain. In Jesus’ name, amen.

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
~Acts 7:55-56

Jesus is seated upon the throne. How blessed we are to belong to a Servant-King whose mission is to spread love and salvation!

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Isn’t His love amazing? Oh my King, pull me closer and closer to You. Then I can stand on the waves without fear or failure.

He is reaching for us all. Contemplate His great love.

My mind is so full of distractions this morning. Some days it is so hard to focus, and those days seem to follow days of intense fellowship. But no matter my circumstance, I will seek my King with all my might and, as always, He will meet me here, in the stillness of my spirit.

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

I always wonder when the tables will turn. When will it start here? When will there be pressure applied to us for being a follower of Christ? Some might say there is already pressure but in the face of what our brothers and sisters around the world are facing, I say no.

We are seated at the table of comfort compared to most of the world. Christians in Eritrea are imprisoned in shipping crates. The news is full of what is happening to Christians in northern Syria. North Korean Christians are subjected to starvation, torture, and death.

O Church, why there isn’t prayer time set aside for these brothers and sisters on the bulletins of every church in the West? I don’t say this out of anger, I ask this because of love.

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
~Revelation 6:9-11

Today my meditation relates to ignoring circumstance and seeing the sufficiency of Christ. This noisy world makes it hard to focus on the unseen world. That is why I need time alone with Him every day. I give Him time that belongs to Him only. I love to spend time with the Eternal One. He is always able to change my perspective.
